How wonderful it would be to become a person who always hears His words and acts on them, to have that house that is built on such a firm foundation it will never shake. When we are standing on the mountaintop with the Lord, we feel that kind of power and conviction. We believe we will withstand any obstacle, and for that time, we will. But we don’t live on the mountaintop of our hearts, we must go back to the valley where many troubles await.
Luke 6:46-49 describes the scene when Elijah stood up to 450 Baal worshippers and won, standing firm in his faith, watching God perform a miracle. “He arranged the wood, cut up the bull and laid it on the wood. Then he said, ‘Fill four pots with water, and pour it on the burnt offering and on the wood.’ They did it. ‘Do it again,’ he said, and they did it again. ‘Do it a third time,’ he said, and they did it a third time.” Elijah prayed to the Lord so all could hear him: “Hear me, ADONAI [O Lord], hear me, so that this people may know that you, ADONAI, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back to you.” “Then the fire of ADONAI fell. It consumed the burnt offering, the wood, the stones and the dust; and it licked up the water in the trench.” (1 Kings 18:37-38)
But, when “Ach’av [Ahab] told Isevel [Jezebel] everything Eliyahu [Elijah] had done and how he had put all the prophets to the sword,” Jezebel sent a messenger saying, “May the gods do terrible things to me and worse ones besides if by this time tomorrow I haven’t taken your life, just as you took theirs!” When Elijah heard that Jezebel was coming for him, he ran for his life. (1 Kings 19:9) Father knows we will be shaken now and then–we are broken people in a fallen world. We cannot reach perfection here. But, even when Elijah ran and prayed to die, Father sent an angel to tend to his needs, to strengthen him for the journey.
Jesus who died to save us will do just that. Surrounding you with his perfect love, your foundation will hold together. You will not be washed away with the storms. When a wave crashes through and knocks you to your knees, stay there a moment and rest with Him. God will refresh you for the rest of the storm.
Amen!!! He is always with us!!!
