Where Do You Stand?

Luke 8:11-15 tells the parable of the scattered seed. The seed is God’s message and what happens to it after it is scattered is determined by the foundation of the land it falls on. What is your foundation made of? A path, a rock, thorns or rich soil?

When you are standing on the path you hear the Good News, you hear fantastic stories of saving grace and your heart begins to take it in and then the enemy steps in. Something tragic happens before you can step over the threshold of trust and it kicks you back to where you started.

If you are on the rock you have heard the Word and testimonies….You have accepted it into your heart with joy and you’re learning to trust…until something unexpected and painful knocks you off balance because you are not rooted.

If you stand in the midst of the thorns all you can do is hear. You aren’t able to take hold of anything. Worries, finances, life gratifications… they all prick at you and choke out hope.

But when the seed falls on the rich soil in your heart it takes root like Jack’s beanstalk. You are stretched from both directions. Your roots reach down and out while your arms are reaching for the sky. You suddenly hear the Message, you grab onto it and hold it deep within your heart. It is safe from the thief who comes to destroy you. The message grows until it bursts from your heart through your roots and shoots and begins to bring forth a harvest.

What is your foundation made of? If you aren’t satisfied where you stand, grab a pair of gloves and a shovel, start clearing the land. More seed will fall, let it fall in rich soil.
