Where have you been? Do you get asked that question? Do you ever just disappear; physically, mentally, or spiritually? Many of us tend to “check-out” when we get tired, overwhelmed, or confused. When something earth-shattering or heart-breaking hits us out of nowhere we often retreat to a place we can be alone. When we allow the enemy to speak lies into our mind it pulls us into solitude.
There are times it is good to separate ourselves for a short time, to be alone with God. Jesus did that more than once. “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Yeshua got up, left, went away to a lonely spot and stayed there praying.” Mark 1:35 “He made a practice of drawing to remote places in order to pray.” Luke 5:16 “Yeshua went out to the hill country to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God.” Luke 6:12
There are several other passages that speak of Jesus going off alone but always to spend time with His Father. Is that what we do? Sometimes. But, I think it is more common to reflect on what we’ve lost, how we were hurt, or how nothing we do will ever be good enough. Those are the times we disappear spiritually; when we separate even from our Father. “ADONAI– it is he who will go ahead of you. He will be with you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you, so don’t be afraid or downhearted.” Deuteronomy 31:8
It is good to take time under the covering of darkness to sit with and communicate with God. It is ok to disappear for a bit when we feel overwhelmed, our hearts are broken, or we’re fighting the enemy. But, we don’t do ourselves any favors or help our situation if we are also separating fro our Father, Who loves us with a supernatural love we cannot comprehend. He brings peace, joy, and comfort that refreshes our soul.
We’re never truly alone. If we leave God out we make more room for the enemy. Choose carefully who you want to be alone with. Your soul hangs in the balance.
