A Huge Crowd

One of the books on my current reading list is the Book of Revelation. Many people avoid this Book because they don’t understand it or because it’s scary. If you have not yet made a whole-hearted decision to turn your soul over to Jesus for safe-keeping you have every reason to fear. However, there is still time, but for how long?

In chapter seven we read about the sealing of the servants. “Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads!” (Revelation 7:3) John goes on to say that he heard the number being sealed; 144,000–12,000 from each tribe of Israel. I’ve heard people discuss this passage, some believing that only 144,000 will be saved.

But, immediately after numbering each tribe of Israel, John says: “After this, I looked; and there before me was a huge crowd, too large for anyone to count, from every nation, tribe, people and language. They were standing in front of the throne and in front of the Lamb, dressed in white robes and holding palm branches in their hands.” (Revelation 7:9)

I can’t even imagine how many are there when John says, “there are far too many to count.” In chapter 5:11 he says: “Then I looked and I heard the sound of a vast number of angels–thousands and thousands, millions and millions!” If John attempted to describe the number of angels as millions and millions, how large must the crowd be that is too large for anyone to count? My bet is far more than 144,000.

If you fear being left out of heaven’s gate you need to work on your relationship with Jesus. “These people dressed in white robes…they have washed their robes and made them white with the blood of the Lamb.” (Revelation 7:13-14)

Do you need more incentive to get off of your throne and let Jesus lead? “They will never again be hungry, they will never again be thirsty, the sun will not beat down on them, nor will any burning heat. For the Lamb at the center of the throne will shepherd them, will lead them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” (Revelation 7:16-17)

If you and Jesus are not solid best friends, it’s not His fault. Examine your heart today, for you never know when your last chance will come.
