A New Song

“ADONAI [O Lord], what you do makes me happy; I take joy in what your hands have made.” (Psalm 92:5) Where are you right now with God? Can you say in your heart that you are happy because you take joy in what the Lord has done in your life? Can you see the beauty beyond the struggle?

Sometimes it may seem like there is nothing good in your life–the times that the enemy is feeding you lies and holding you down. It doesn’t seem to take much to throw most of us into a world of darkness: health issues, a financial setback, loss of a loved one, no meaningful work, problem children, aging parents…. What do you do to get through the day, hour, next five minutes–when all seems doomed? Do you default to the world’s ways–drugs, alcohol, depression, anger? That’s the hope of the enemy.

David’s experience shows us a better way: “I waited patiently for ADONAI [the Lord], till he turned toward me and heard my cry. He brought me up from the roaring pit, up from the muddy ooze, and set my feet on a rock, making my footing firm. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.” ( 40:2-4 (1-3)) When you are able to turn and let God lift you, you will find joy again in the work of his hands.

Our God is big enough to handle your feelings. Be honest with him, he already knows what’s on your mind and invites you to lay it all down at the foot of the cross. You can have your tantrum with Father: yell, scream, stomp your feet, get it out. Then, collapse in his arms and let him give you a new song. “Many will look on in awe and put their trust in Adonai.”
