Getting Social

Do you have a platform; somewhere you can voice your views or initiate action? If you are on any social media sites you have a place where you can share what’s on your mind or in your heart. How do you use your soapbox? It may be a place for idle chit chat, someplace to connect when you are lonely or bored, a place to blow off steam, play games or perhaps find long lost friends. Do you put any thought into the things you post? They say far more about you than you may realize.

If your social media is used to promote a business you should be only posting things that cause people to trust you and want to be a part of what you are doing. As for myself, I started out simply because it was a new way to communicate and I could play the farm game; which flared up my carpal tunnel and gave my computer a virus. I finally realized how foolish I was being. Now and then I would post something to or about God but He wasn’t my main focus.

I was a businesswoman and as such, I was conscious of the fact that my posts become a part of my reputation. Over the years my motives changed and my social media began to take on a different purpose for me. It is my platform or at least the largest one I currently have. Father has grown me into a Kingdom Warrior and it is my duty to seek out the lost or hurting children of God; to encourage them to seek their home and healing through Jesus.

I read a post from a friend that simply asked: “Who am I to you?” My thoughts turned immediately to Matthew 16:15: “‘But you,’ he said to them, ‘Who do you say I am?’” With that thought in mind, I shared the post. I wanted simply to turn someone’s thoughts to Jesus for a moment.

Another social media user and I were discussing today’s world and our public platforms. She’s as conscious as I am about what she posts. Our reputations matter. However, as Christians first and foremost, I believe it is our duty to use our voices to declare God’s Word above all else.

Father does reward. When I shared that simple post, I set in motion a blessing that would come right back to me. One lady gave the answer I was hoping to find and I knew my intention had been fulfilled but something else happened as well. People began telling me what I mean to them. I wasn’t expecting or looking for that reaction. I wanted it all to be about the Lord. I caused one heart to think of Jesus and He caused many more to think of me! That’s how He works when your genuine priority is Him. Do you have a platform where you should be telling others of God’s goodness? If you are on social media you do. If you haven’t been doing so you are missing wonderful opportunities for Father to bless you. It all starts with one post. If you aren’t afraid of being looked at as a Jesus freak give it a try. If you are afraid of that reputation, you and Jesus have a real problem you need to discuss first. Make Jesus famous by spreading the Word.
