Global Warming

It’s important to consider our environment and how we care for it. Do you think we will ever win the war against global warming? Every generation blames the one ahead of itself for leaving the world in a mess. Do you have special clothing to protect you from the elements? Perhaps a rain jacket and boots to keep you dry, a coat for warmth, a hat to keep the wind out of your ears? Do you have anything that’s fireproof?

The way global warming alarms are being sounded you might begin to think the world is just going to erupt into a ball of flames. I’ve heard people speculate about how the world will be destroyed this time. After the flood, Father promised never to do it with water again and He gave us the rainbow as a reminder of that promise. I used to joke about the increased intensity of the wind, that perhaps He will just blow us all off the earth. But we have no reason to waste a moment wondering how our destruction will come about.

2nd Peter is such a short book in the New Testament that you may have missed it. Only three chapters long it occupies only four pages in my Bible, but it holds the answer to the question of how. “The Day of the Lord will come ‘like a thief’. On that Day the heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will melt and disintegrate, and the earth and everything in it will be burned up.” (2 Peter 3:10)

Matthew tells us in chapter 24:7-8: “Peoples will fight each other, nations will fight each other, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various parts of the world; all of this is but the beginning of ‘birth-pains’.” Is it possible that global warming is also part of those ‘birth-pains’? “That Day will bring on the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt from the heat; but we, following along with his promise, wait for new heavens and a new earth.” (2 Peter 3:12-13)

Back to my question about protective clothing. Father provides us with a fireproof outfit if only we will wear it. It’s the one written about in Ephesians 6 that comes with the helmet of salvation. There’s a major fire on the way. It seems logical to me that the closer we get to it the more we should feel the heat. Global-warming or global-destruction? Dress up and grab your shield–the Evil One shoots flaming arrows.
