It’s Your Decision

Decisions, decisions, decisions… all day, every day. They can come at you so quickly that sometimes you may not even think before you have made your choice. Other times you ponder all of the possible scenarios based on your answer, hoping to be wise. What if your decision carried the power of life or death and you could not change your answer?

In Daniel 6 we learn that King Daryavesh (Darius) didn’t have the luxury of being able to change his mind. He quickly agreed to the proposal that would be glorifying to himself without any thought about the man he wanted in control of his entire kingdom — Daniel, who had an extraordinary spirit in him. He soon regretted his decision but it could not be undone. Aren’t you glad your quick decisions don’t carry the weight of a king? How much more would you consider a choice if you knew you could not undo it?

Do you realize you are given direction to “Just let your yes be a simple yes and your no a simple no,” (Matthew 5:37) and that nothing is too insignificant to bring before Father. He wants to be so much a part of your life that your thought process runs directly through Him just as His blood runs through you.

Imagine the freedom you would feel if you could take the word “if” out of your answers: if you simply chose with Father’s help, one side of the fence and stood there, trusting Him to work it out according to His plan. “Trust in ADONAI [the Lord] with all your heart; do not rely on your own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5) He knows the way the path leads. Doesn’t it make better sense to follow the One who knows the way than to stumble around the desert making wrong turns on your own?
