Knock Knock

How do you react when you hear a knock at your door? Do you welcome people and bring them inside? Perhaps you crack the door open and quickly send them on their way or maybe you pretend you aren’t home. Have you ever heard a knock you responded to only to find no one there? Perhaps your ears aren’t open enough to direct you to the proper door. “Here, I’m standing at the door, knocking. If someone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he will eat with me.” (Revelation 3:20)

Imagine having Jesus as a dinner guest. If you knew He was coming, you would probably spend considerable time in preparation, making sure things were clean, put away, dusted, and swept. It’s likely you would plan to serve the most elaborate meal you can imagine, with all the trimmings, sparing nothing to make your guest feel special and appreciated. Most of us would go all out if we knew Jesus was coming for dinner.

What about the Rauch HaKodesh (Holy Spirit)? If you have accepted Jesus as your Savior, the Spirit has taken up permanent residency within your soul. What type of meals do you share with Him? His power in your life and contentment in your heart comes from being fed by the Word. It may be easy to forget to call Him to join you. As your permanent houseguest, He is considerate of your desires. He knocks but waits patiently for you to invite Him. If you want your heart to expand to be a feast for the Spirit you must prepare healthy meals with the main course being the Living Word and Living Water for your drink. If you want to see how powerful He can be in your life, remember to dine with Him often. Make it your practice to eat of God’s Word daily to strengthen your heart and faith muscles. Do you hear a knock? Check the door of your heart.
