Let It Out

Autocorrect!  Who is behind that annoying creation? I’m usually convinced it is run by Satan because of the way my words are changed. However, I believe that God will also use autocorrect to get my attention. My sentence was supposed to say: “She did commit herself to the Lord.” But it read: “She did vomit herself to the Lord.” My first thought was: “Well, that’s gross.”

But just as quickly as that thought entered it was replaced by a picture of myself, before the Lord, on my knees–the troubles in my life bubbling and churning within my heart. A drama team did a skit of a person appearing before Jesus at the cross, pulling heavy suitcases–their baggage. They would set them down and tell Him they needed His help but pick them back up before they left–a great example of what we tend to do. After all, the world teaches us that we should own our problems and deal with them ourselves.

But, I thought, if instead of dragging bags, we just showed up, got on our knees, and vomited everything before the cross, we wouldn’t be tempted to try to take it back. A heart that spews it all out cannot regather the nasty chunks. But it’s not a problem for Jesus to just hose it all down the drain with the dirt He washes off your feet. “Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God; so that at the right time he may lift you up. Throw all your anxieties before him, because he cares about you.” (1 Peter 5:6-7) What is God inviting you to get out of your system?
