No Fair!

How did people ever get the idea that life should be fair? I am so tired of hearing, “No fair!” or “Why not me?” that I have told all of my kids that I don’t want to hear those words in my house anymore–if only that would be enough to stop it. I am not fair and have no intention of allowing these little people to make me feel guilty about it. Have you ever tried to be “fair” in the eyes of others? In my experience, it just doesn’t work.

When I raised my boys I tried it. What I got for one child I also got for the other, just a different color. Same clothes, same bikes, same hair cuts….They still grew up completely different–both of them feeling I favored the other. Now, with their kids, I don’t even try. I tell them the truth: life is not fair and never will be in the eyes of humans. I want them to get that expectation out of their young hearts so that they will be spared much disappointment.

We are all given different experiences in life for specific reasons, that only Father knows in full. We are meant to help each other through, to lead and encourage each other by sharing and caring. But, if we all had exactly the same possessions and experiences, what would we be able to do for each other that would make any difference?

Our experiences are different so that we are able to relate to the people God will send into our lives to minister to. You don’t have to be a pastor to have a ministry. The word ministry means to provide information or services about a cause.

We truly should be happy to know that life is not fair. If it were, Jesus would not have taken our punishment. Most of us would be imprisoned for something we have done and we would all die a horrible death for our wicked ways, “since all have sinned and come short of earning God’s praise. By God’s grace, without earning it, we are all granted the status of being considered righteous before him, through the act of redeeming us from our enslavement to sin that was accomplished by Messiah Yeshua.” (Romans 3:23-24)

Jesus treated us all with the same love, His life for ours–no fair! He wasn’t the sinner. Why would He pay for our sins? Because life’s not fair. We are treated so much better than we deserve to be. Thank you Jesus!
