The Mountaintop

On vacation in the Tennessee mountains, some of us decided we wanted to see the house at the top, so we set off for an adventure up the slope–in a two-wheel-drive vehicle. We slowly climbed until the wheels began to spin–we were stuck. I pondered how God would rescue us; He knew what was coming and surely had made a way.

Suddenly, a man driving a four-wheel-drive ORV came around us and said: “You have heavy equipment behind you–you need to go on up.” We apologetically let him know that we were unable to move out of their way. The situation seemed to have worsened as we waited on God.

Behind us, I could see a large pickup truck just around the steep corner. I had no idea what the heavy equipment was but I knew we were hindering their workday. The lead man went back to discuss the situation with the crew. A few minutes later, the truck with a large empty trailer in tow slipped carefully around us on the ridge. Following the truck was a full-size bobcat on tracks. It also gently crept around us. Pulling in front of us the men, after a diligent search, found a place to hook the bobcat to the car and pulled us out of the rut.

“What are mere mortals, that you would make so much of them? Why do you keep them on your mind?” (Job 7:17) For situations such as this! Father knew we wanted an adventure. He knew that a team of men needed to get to a worksite. He combined the two situations to provide a timely rescue directly behind us, just out of sight. “Won’t you ever take your eyes off me?” (Job 7:19) Thank you, Jesus, for not leaving us on the edge of the mountain.

Are you stuck on the edge, trying to get the mountaintop experience? Your help is just around the corner–wait on God.
