The Spirit Helps Us

Jesus says “…keep asking and it will be given to you.” (Luke 11:9) But what should we ask for? I often have said, “I just want God’s will to be done.” That seemed safe. “Lord make me want what you want,” and I meant it. Then I saw what it was that He wants us all to keep asking for.

“So if you, even though you are bad, know how to give your children gifts that are good, how much more will the Father keep giving the Rauch HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) from heaven to those who keep asking him!” (Luke 11:13) It’s not a one-time gift to receive the Holy Spirit.

Why is the Spirit the best thing we could gain? “…the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we don’t know how to pray the way we should. But the Spirit himself pleads on our behalf with groanings too deep for words, and the one who searches hearts knows exactly what the Spirit is thinking, because his pleadings for God’s people accord with God’s will. Furthermore, we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called in accordance with his purpose.” (Romans 8:26-28)

So none of us know how to pray the way we should. But if we continue going back to Father with our hopeful hearts set on refreshing and growing the Spirit within, all we need to do at that point is receive and allow the Spirit to groan for us. Wait in excited expectation at how Father will answer your unspoken heart prayer. Keep asking and He will keep giving.
